If you need URGENT medical attention call

The GP Out of Hours Service NHS 111

It has come to our attention that many local residents have received a promotional letter from a company called Pharmacy2U. Please be aware that this is a marketing tactic from an on line pharmacy company based in Leeds and if you sign up (or 'nominate') them to be your pharmacy by returning the form with the letter, they will send your repeat medication via the Royal Mail. If you have received a letter from Pharmacy2U and are happy with your current nominated pharmacy and how you receive your medication, please ignore it.

Repeat Prescribing Policy

Repeat Prescriptions Requests

pillsRequests may be made either by bringing or posting the prescription counterfoil to the surgery. Pharmacies may bring counterfoils and collect prescriptions on the patient's behalf. Counterfoils may be faxed to the surgery. Patients who wish to have prescriptions returned by post should include a stamped addressed envelope.

Prescription Timescale

All prescriptions will be available for collection within 2 working days. Patients who require prescriptions returned by post should allow additional time.

Prescription Quantities

In most instances prescription repeats will be issued for 56 days. There is evidence this avoids wastage. In the case of contraceptives and hormone replacement therapy, scripts may be issued for 6 months.

Authorised repeat quantities

Repeat prescriptions will be authorised at the doctor's discretion for up to twelve months. When patients request their last script a note will be attached to the prescription informing the patient that they should attend for a medication review with the doctor. It is practice policy to use your birthday as a review date.  Some patients will require more regular reviews.

Please be aware that if you request a repeat medication but you are due for a medication review this has to be authorised by a GP.  This may delay the period of time require to process your prescription request.

Waste Medicines

Did you know, in East Staffordshire we wasted medicines which cost the NHS millions?  Remember, once dispensed, medicines cannot be reused by other patients. Please consider this when ordering your next prescription.
